First Impressions Decide Cases

Your Website Is Where Clients Decide Whether to Call

People rarely hire a lawyer on impulse. A potential client with an injury, a divorce, a business dispute or a criminal charge is stressed, often scared, and comparing three or four law firms at once. Most of that comparison happens on your law firm website, usually on a phone, before anyone ever speaks to your intake team.

In those first few seconds, the site has to answer the questions every client is asking: Do these attorneys handle my kind of case? Do they seem experienced and trustworthy? Can I reach someone right now? A dated design, vague practice area pages or a contact form buried at the bottom of the page sends that client straight to the next firm in the search results.

We design law firm websites around that moment of decision. Every site is built mobile-first, written in plain language that clients understand, and built on WordPress so your firm owns it and can update attorney bios, news and results without calling a developer.

Law firm web design is also law firm marketing, and your online presence is often the first impression lawyers get to make. The same site that impresses a referral partner has to rank in Google for the cases you want, answer questions AI assistants are asked about your practice, and turn a late-night search into a morning consultation. Design and SEO have to be planned together from the first wireframe.

What Clients Look For

What Earns a Client's Call

When someone is choosing an attorney, they are looking for signs of competence, trust and responsiveness. These are the elements we put up front on every law firm website.

Clear practice areas

Visitors should see in seconds whether your firm handles their kind of case, with a dedicated page for each practice area.

Real attorney bios

Photos, background, bar admissions, education and experience for each lawyer, because clients hire people, not logos.

Fast, easy contact

A phone number that taps to call on every page and a short consultation form that works on a phone.

Reviews and client testimonials

Client reviews and testimonials that follow your state’s advertising rules and show real experiences.

Answers to common questions

FAQs and plain-language guides that answer what clients worry about before they call.

Office locations and hours

Every office with a map, parking notes and hours, plus after-hours contact options if you offer them.

Law Firm Website Best Practices

Design Elements of a High-Performing Law Firm Website

The best law firm websites share the same design elements. None of them are flashy. All of them build trust and make the next step obvious.

A headline that names what you do

Not a slogan. The first screen should say what kind of law you practice and where.

One clear call to action

A consistent Free Consultation or Call Now button, repeated down every page.

Professional branding

A consistent logo, color palette and typography that feels established and calm, not loud.

Simple navigation

Practice areas, attorneys, results, reviews and contact, with nothing important hidden two menus deep.

Authentic photography

Real photos of your attorneys, team and office instead of stock images of courtrooms and gavels.

Accessible and ADA-friendly

Readable contrast, labeled forms and headings in order, so every potential client can use the site.

We also avoid the common mistakes: autoplay videos, pop-ups that cover the page on arrival, walls of legal jargon, and home pages that talk about the firm instead of the client’s problem. The best legal website designs put the client’s situation first and the firm’s credentials right behind it as proof.

Templates from legal marketing companies can launch quickly, but many firms using the same provider end up with nearly identical sites, and some agreements leave the website or its content with the vendor if you leave. A custom WordPress site built around your practice areas is yours, and it can grow with your firm.

Pages That Rank and Convert

Pages We Build for Law Firms

A single Practice Areas page cannot rank for everything your firm does. We plan a structure that gives each kind of case its own page and connects them into a strong silo.

Practice area pages

A page for each major practice area and important case type, written around the questions clients search for.

Attorney profile pages

A page for each lawyer with credentials, experience, publications and speaking, which also supports search for their names.

Results and case studies

Past results and representative matters, presented in a way that follows your state bar’s rules on results and testimonials.

Location pages

A page for each office and the communities it serves, written for that market instead of copied with the city name swapped.

Legal guides and FAQs

Helpful guides on common legal questions that answer clients, attract links and give AI search engines something to quote.

Consultation and intake

A short, secure intake form and clear expectations about what happens after someone reaches out.

Each page targets the searches your future clients actually use, like car accident lawyer, divorce attorney near me or how does probate work in Texas, and each one links to your consultation form. That structure lets a small or mid-size firm compete with much larger firms for the cases it wants most.

If your current site already ranks for some of these, we protect it. Before any redesign we record the URLs and rankings you have earned and keep the pages that carry them. That is how we handle every Houston web design project and every law firm we work with across Texas and beyond.

Practice Areas We Design For

Law Firm Websites for Every Practice

Different practices win clients in different ways. We design around how your clients search, decide and reach out.

Personal injury

Urgent contact, clear case types and trust signals for injured people and their families.

Family law

A calm, reassuring tone and discreet contact options for divorce, custody and support.

Criminal defense

Around-the-clock contact and clear explanations for people facing charges.

Estate planning and probate

Guides and gentle calls to action for families planning ahead or settling an estate.

Business and corporate law

Credibility and depth for owners and in-house counsel choosing outside counsel.

Employment and workers' compensation

Plain answers for workers and employers facing workplace legal issues.

Built to Be Found

Law Firm Web Design and SEO, Built Together

Most new clients start with a search, and competition for legal keywords is intense. A law firm website design that looks impressive but was not planned for search leaves the best clients to someone else.

We build every page with clear titles, headings and internal links, attorney and law firm schema, and location details that match your Google Business Profile. That is the foundation of local SEO for law firms, and it is what helps you show up in the map pack when someone nearby searches for a lawyer.

Clients also ask AI assistants which lawyers to call. Clear, well-structured practice area pages and FAQs give AI search engines accurate information to cite about your firm. We write and structure your content so it is useful to people and easy for machines to understand.

Features That Support Your Practice

Built-In Tools for Busy Law Firms

Your website should reduce work for your intake team, not add to it. These are the features we build into law firm websites.

Secure consultation forms

Short, mobile-friendly forms that route inquiries to the right person, without asking for sensitive details up front.

Call tracking

Tracked numbers show which practice areas and searches produce real consultations.

Consultation scheduling

Integration with the scheduling tool your firm already uses, where appropriate.

Multilingual content

Spanish or other language pages for the communities your firm serves.

Practice management integrations

Forms that connect to your intake or practice management software where the software supports it.

Security and hosting

SSL, updates, backups and monitoring on our own servers, so your site stays fast and protected.

Speed and security matter even more for a law firm. A slow or hacked website damages trust instantly. Our sites run on WordPress hosting built for Core Web Vitals, managed by the same team that designed them.

See the kind of work we do in our portfolio, or start with a free website audit to see how your current site compares.

Know the Rules

Lawyer Advertising Rules and Your Law Firm Website

A law firm website is a form of lawyer advertising, so it has to follow your state bar’s rules. In Texas, those rules are in Part VII of the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct. Among other things, Rule 7.05(b) exempts information and links on a law firm website from the State Bar’s filing requirement except the contents of the homepage, unless that homepage information is otherwise exempt. Non-exempt advertisements are filed with the State Bar of Texas Advertising Review Committee within ten days after they are disseminated.

We design with those rules in mind: we keep claims factual, present results and testimonials carefully, and make it easy to identify the responsible attorney and office. We also keep your homepage organized so filing it, when required, is straightforward.

This is general information, not legal advice. Your firm is responsible for its own compliance, and the State Bar of Texas Advertising Review Department can answer questions about specific content. If you practice in other states, their advertising rules apply too.

Brand and User Experience

A Law Firm Brand Clients Remember and a Site That Is Easy to Use

Logo and brand identity

A logo, color palette and type system that reflects your firm’s values and makes a strong first impression across the website, signage and social media.

Responsive on desktop and phone

A responsive website design that works just as well on a desktop at the office as it does on a phone in a hospital waiting room.

User experience that guides

UX designed around the path a client takes: understand the problem, trust the lawyers, reach out. Every page supports that path.

Law firm branding does not need to look like every other firm with a gavel and a column. The strongest brands feel calm, confident and specific to the kind of clients they serve. A family law firm and a business litigation firm should not look the same, because their clients are looking for very different things.

Good user experience design is mostly about removing friction. We test every law firm website on real phones and desktops, check that forms are short and clear, and make sure important information like hours, locations and the phone number never takes more than a tap to find.

Common Questions From Firms

What Makes a Law Firm Website Worth the Investment

More qualified leads

Clear practice area pages and intake forms bring in the cases you want, not just more calls.

Stronger referrals

Referral partners check your website before they send a client. It should confirm their confidence.

Recruiting

Associates and staff research your firm online too. A professional site helps you hire.

A good law firm website pays for itself when it brings in even a few of the right cases. The goal is not traffic for its own sake. It is a steady flow of qualified potential clients who already trust your firm by the time they call.

Beyond the Website

Law Firm Marketing That Builds on Your Website

Your website is the center of your law firm marketing, but it works best alongside everything else your firm does online. Search engine optimization brings in potential clients who are actively looking for lawyers. Google Business Profile optimization helps you win the map pack in the neighborhoods you serve. Reviews build trust with every visitor. Content like guides and FAQs builds authority over time and gives both Google and AI assistants a reason to recommend your firm.

Because Vertical Web is a full-service digital marketing agency with every service in-house, we can connect those pieces instead of handing you off between vendors. The same team that designs your site can run local SEO and PPC management for your firm, so your advertising sends clients to pages built to convert them.

When you evaluate any agency, ask how they measure success. Traffic and rankings matter, but for a law firm the numbers that count are consultations and signed cases. We set up call and form tracking from day one so you can see which practice areas and marketing channels bring in real clients, and where the best growth opportunity is compared with your competitors.

FAQ

Law Firm Web Design Questions

At minimum: clear practice area pages, attorney bios with photos, an easy way to call or request a consultation on every page, reviews or testimonials presented within your state bar’s rules, office locations and helpful FAQs. Firms that want to grow add location pages and legal guides for the cases they want most.

It depends on the number of practice areas, attorneys and offices, whether we write the content and which integrations you need. We scope the project first and give you one number in writing before work starts.

Yes. A law firm website is treated as lawyer advertising under Part VII of the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct. Rule 7.05(b) exempts most website content from filing, except the homepage unless its content is otherwise exempt. Confirm specifics with the State Bar of Texas Advertising Review Department.

Your website is the foundation of your search visibility. We build practice area pages, attorney pages, schema and fast mobile performance into every site. Ongoing SEO and content then build on that foundation to compete for the most valuable legal searches.

Templates launch quickly, but they often look like other firms using the same vendor, and some contracts keep the site or content if you leave. A custom WordPress site is owned by your firm and can be designed around your practice and your market.
