Houston's Internet Marketing Clinic has been a popular ongoing SEO and Digital Marketing Series since 2003. Created by seo expert Beth Guide, this podcast is designed to help business owners, learn the tips, tricks, techniques, and lingo of internet marketing. We cover different topics each week in how to help our listeners succeed in having a web site that works for their business, works for their customers but also works for Google so that it is highly ranked and visable. We also teach conversion and user related concepts that help our listens learn how to maximize the ROI. With over 600 attendees each month this podcast expands our clinic and makes it more available to our business owners so they can participate on their timeline.
ABOUT THE SHOW
What is the digital marketing clinic podcast about?
The Internet Marketing Clinic started in 2003 as a night class through the SBDC. Today it runs with partners including the Houston West Chamber of Commerce, HCC with SCORE and Lone Star College, and every session is recorded. The podcast is the audio of those classes, so you can learn SEO in the car, at the gym or between appointments.
Each episode takes one topic and works through it the way Beth teaches in the room: what the term means, why Google cares, what to change on your own site this week, and what the people in class asked about it. Because the participants steer the questions, the episodes stay practical. You hear about real title tags, real Google Business Profile categories and real mistakes, not theory. Episodes run about the length of a class, and the chapters in the YouTube versions let you skip to the part you need.
The live class schedule is on the Internet Marketing Clinic Houston page, and the video versions with screen shares are collected in our on demand SEO classes library.

THE CASE FOR VERTICAL WEB ON SEO EDUCATION
A podcast from the team that does the work
Teaching since 2003
Beth Guide teaches digital marketing for the SBA, the University of Houston SBDC, Lone Star College and HCC and appears as a technology expert on Fox 26.
Practiced daily
The same in-house team that runs client SEO, web design and hosting is behind every lesson, so the advice is tested on real sites.
Candid advice
We tell you what you can do yourself and what is worth paying for. Some episodes end with: you do not need to buy anything.
WHY PODCAST
Why a podcast helps your SEO
Beth practices what the show teaches. Her advice in class is to put each episode on its own page with the player, a written summary and the transcript, then link those pages together by topic. That structure tells Google, and the AI engines that read your site, that you are an expert on the subject, and it turns one recording into a blog post, a video and a week of social posts.
She also recommends making the show easy to subscribe to everywhere, including Apple Podcasts and Spotify, so listeners never have to hunt for it. If you want that setup for your own business, our podcasting service handles recording workflow, hosting and the website pages. Her comparison of blogging versus podcasting explains when each one pays off.

Meet the host
Who hosts the Internet Marketing Clinic digital marketing podcast?
The host is Beth Guide, president of Vertical Web. She has run a Houston web design, SEO and hosting agency since 1998 and has taught search to business owners since 2003. That combination is what makes this digital marketing podcast different: the host is not a commentator. She runs client campaigns during the day and teaches what worked at night.
Every episode comes from a live class, so the audience is part of the show. Entrepreneurs, office managers and in-house marketers ask the questions, and Beth answers them with examples from real websites. You hear the follow up questions too, which is often where the best insight is.
Beth is also candid about what does not work. She will tell listeners when a tool is not worth the money, when a trend is mostly noise, and when the fix is something you can do yourself in a few minutes. As a teacher she has said she stopped worrying that teaching people would cost her clients. People who understand SEO tend to hire well, and that is good for everyone.
Business advice, local focus
How is this internet marketing podcast different from national marketing podcasts?
National marketing podcasts tend to cover growth tactics for startups, online course sellers or industry news. Many are worth a listen.
The Internet Marketing Clinic fills a different need. It is built for a local business owner who needs Houston internet marketing help, not a startup chasing venture growth. The focus is on the work that brings in calls for a law firm, a dentist, a contractor or a manufacturer: the Google Business Profile, title tags, content, reviews, Google Ads and the AI answers that now sit above the search results.
Episodes run about the length of a class, not a 10 minute clip. That gives each topic room for the step by step detail most shows skip. If you want a quick idea, listen to the first few minutes. If you want to fix your site, keep going with your own pages open.
- Who it is for: owners and staff at small and mid-size businesses.
- What you get: one topic per episode, with real questions from the audience.
- What it costs: nothing. There are no ads in the episodes.
Apple, Spotify and video
How to listen to the digital marketing clinic on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or video
You can play every episode right on this page. To get new episodes as they post, use the subscribe links above the player to follow the show in your podcast app, whether that is Apple Podcasts, Spotify or another app you already use. Listeners who like to see the screen can watch the video versions, which show the websites and tools as Beth works through them.
The show started simply. Beth was already recording the classes on video, so she took the audio track off each video and turned it into a podcast episode. Then she gave each episode a keyword title that matches its blog post, so the audio, the video and the written recap all support each other in search. It is the same advice she gives any business owner thinking about a podcast.
New class dates go out to the class mailing list, which works like a newsletter for the show. The live schedule is on the Internet Marketing Clinic Houston page, and the video library is in on demand SEO classes.
Topics that move a business
Which marketing podcast episodes should a small business start with?
Start with the basics, then pick the episode that matches the problem you have right now. If your site is new or you are not sure what SEO even covers, the SEO basics episode lays out the foundation. If you depend on the map pack, start with local SEO and the Google Business Profile.
From there, follow your own sales numbers. If traffic is fine but calls are flat, the episodes on content marketing, conversion and your target audience will help more than another keyword list. If you are spending on Google Ads, listen to the paid search episodes before you raise the budget. If customers are asking ChatGPT or Gemini for recommendations, the AI search episodes explain how to get named in those answers.
Every episode ends with a few steps you can take on your own website. Write them down, make one change, and check the results in Search Console a few weeks later. That habit is worth more than any single fact in any single episode. If you want help building a show of your own, our podcasting service sets it up the same way.
