What We Check
The questions your home page has to answer
A visitor decides in seconds. Google and the AI engines decide the same way. The makeover grades your page on the questions they are all asking, whether you know it or not.
What Do You Sell?
Named in the title tag and the headline in plain words, not hinted at in the third paragraph. Most home pages we check open with Welcome and the business name.
Who Is It For, and Where?
The customer you want and the area you serve, so the right people stay and the wrong ones leave. Houston is not the same market as Katy or Kingwood.
Why You?
Real proof: years, reviews, results. We look for it above the fold, where a visitor and an AI engine both expect it, and we never make it up.
What Do I Do Next?
One clear call to action, repeated top, middle and end, with tap-to-call on phones. A page that never asks never sells.
Does It Sell or Describe?
How much of the page asks for the business versus explaining the company history. Lead with the customer’s problem, then the proof.
Can Google and AI Read It?
One H1, a real title tag and description, schema and alt text, so search engines and AI tools know what you do instead of guessing.
Why It Matters
A pretty website that does not sell is still broken
We have built websites in Houston since 1998, and the most common problem we see is not ugly design. It is a good-looking home page that never says what the business does. Owners are surprised when we read their own page back to them as a stranger would. The words they thought were obvious are missing, and the phone number is 3 scrolls down.
We teach this in the Internet Marketing Clinic: every page needs one main headline, a title tag that names the service, and a reason to act. When those are missing, the page does not rank and it does not convert, no matter how nice it looks.
In the video, Beth takes a Houston site that ranked well, was handed to a designer who said they knew SEO, and lost it. The title tag became the business name. The navigation lost its words. Every one of those shows up in the makeover above, and every one of them is fixable.

Common Mistakes
Home page mistakes we fix every week
Opening with a welcome. “Welcome to our website” uses the most valuable spot on the page to say nothing. The headline should name the service and the place, such as roof repair in Kingwood or family dentistry in Meyerland.
A slider instead of a message. Rotating banners split the page into 5 weak messages. Visitors rarely wait for slide 2. One strong headline with one button does more.
Hiding the phone number. Many of our clients still get most of their business by phone. The number belongs at the top, and on a phone it should be tap-to-call.
Talking about the company, not the customer. History and mission statements matter less than the customer’s problem and how fast you solve it. Lead with the problem, then the proof.
Too many choices. 10 equal buttons means no button. Pick the one action that brings in business, make it obvious, and repeat it.
No proof. Real reviews, real years in business, real photos of your team and your work. If you have them, they go near the top. If you do not, we help you collect them, and we never make them up.
Missing the basics for Google. No H1, a title tag that only says Home, and no schema. Search engines and AI tools then have to guess what you do, and they often guess wrong.
A redesign that forgot the rankings. New site, new URLs, old pages gone. Traffic falls off a cliff and nobody can say why. Repairing that is our most requested service.
How It Works
From your home page to a new one in 3 steps
1. Enter your website
Your name, email and website address. Phone and business name are optional. The tool checks that the domain is real before it starts.
2. See the concept and the audit
In about a minute you see the top of your new home page, your score, the 5-second test, a new headline and your top 5 fixes, right on this page.
3. Get your full mockup
Over the next few minutes the tool rebuilds the rest of the page with the changes applied, shows it here and emails you the link with a button to book a time.
A note on accuracy. The suggestions are written by AI from your own page, and AI makes mistakes when it cannot tell right from wrong. It is only allowed to use facts it finds on your site. Anything a strong page needs that we could not find, such as years in business or a real review, is marked in yellow for you to fill in. Nothing is invented.
After the Makeover
What a better home page usually takes
A rewrite on your current site. If your platform is sound, we rewrite the headline, calls to action and sections on the site you already have. Your page addresses stay the same, so your rankings are safe.
A redesign. If the layout is dated or hard to use on a phone, our Houston web design team redesigns it while keeping every ranking address.
A rebuild. Old hand-coded sites and outdated builders sometimes cannot be fixed well. Then we rebuild in WordPress and Elementor, with SEO built in from day one by our Houston SEO team.
Traffic first. If your home page is fine but nobody sees it, the problem is visibility, not design. Our Traffic Drop Analyzer shows when and why traffic fell, and our local SEO and AI SEO services get you found in the map pack, Google AI answers and ChatGPT.

Questions
Homepage makeover questions
Yes. You see the concept, the score, the 5-second test, the rewritten headline and your top 5 fixes on screen, and the full mockup arrives by email. There is no credit card and no contract. If you want us to build it, that is a conversation with a price.
Your home page only: title tag, headings, navigation words, schema, alt text, the phone number, the call to action and whether a visitor or an AI engine can tell what you sell and where. It draws the concept from the logo and photo already on your page.
The on-screen result is quick. The full mockup takes a few minutes to build and we email you a link to open it. A person from Vertical Web follows up once. We never sell your information.
The tool is built for your own home page and is limited to 5 checks an hour. If you want a competitor comparison, that is part of the free website analysis.
Some sites block automated visits. If that happens you get a short email with a booking link, and we run the makeover with you on a call instead.
Start with the critical fixes: a title tag that names what you sell and where, one H1 that matches it, and one clear call to action at the top. If the problems run deeper, book a time and we will quote the rewrite, redesign or rebuild.
No, the home page only. The free website analysis checks every page, your competitors, your history and your AI visibility.
